Bag Filter
A bag filter is a type of air pollution control device that uses a series of bags to remove particulate matter from gas streams. The bags are made of a filter media, such as polyester, nylon, or glass fiber, that has small pores that trap the particles. The gas stream flows through the bags, and the particles are captured on the surface of the bags. The bags are then cleaned periodically to remove the captured particles. Pipe and Fittings
All piping connections should be made using good general practices for the materials involved. For pipe that is made from PVC or other thermoplastic materials, follow guidelines established by the Plastic Pipe Institute. Before continuous operation is attempted, all connections should be checked for leaks using water. Use care in attaching all pipe connections to avoid excessive piping stresses, especially if the dust collector is of plastic construction. A flexible type of connection, such as hose connection, is generally preferred. To prevent air becoming entrapped, the pipe should rise in the direction of flow and be fitted with a vent valve at each high point. Pipe the vent to a drain. Install a dirt trap and drain valve at every low point and the bottom of every riser to permit flushing. Pipe to a drain. Drain fittings must be isolated from each other. Use a plumber's P-trap or submerge the end of each drain line. Either method will prevent air from flowing in the drain line. Such flows can cause by-passing, or they can interfere with proper drainage of the vessel. Support and anchor all pipe and fittings in order to prevent damage to the equipment or to the pipe itself. Piping should never be supported by the flanges on equipment. It should be supported independently. This will prevent deformation or twisting of the equipment. Heat trace pipe and fittings, if necessary, to prevent freezing.
Duct and Fittings
Support and anchor all duct and components in order to prevent damage to the equipment or to the duct itself. Duct should never be supported by the flanges on vessels or air moving equipment. It should be supported independently to prevent deformation or twisting of the equipment. Use a flexible connection whenever vibration isolators are used, and to minimize noise. Avoid sudden changes in duct size. The included angle of an inlet transition should be 14 degrees or fewer. The outlet transition should be not more than 30 degrees. Elbows should be kept to a centerline radius of at least one and one-half duct diameters. Branches entering a trunk line should be spaced so that they do not enter directly opposite each other. They should enter at an angle of no greater than 45 degrees. Place access doors in the ductwork just ahead of the vessel inlet and outlet connections. Slope duct toward the equipment to prevent splash, spray or condensate from getting into the duct system. Stack height should be sufficient to avoid introducing exhaust air into windows or air intakes. Use guy wires to brace against wind loads. Guy wires and hardware should be stainless steel or other corrosion-resistant material.
Electrical Equipment
Electrical connections should be made only by a qualified electrician. Make sure that all electrical work is done in accordance with applicable codes. Lock out the power source prior to any work being done. Be sure to follow the wiring diagram on the nameplate or terminal box of the electrical equipment. Make sure that motors are wired for the correct supply voltage. Provide ample overload protection and other safety devices. After electrical connections have been made, check the rotation of the fan. Arrows show proper direction of rotation.
How to Maintain Vortex Wet Dust Collector
Use the Right Parts
Make sure your vortex wet dust collector is using the right parts, from the blower, dust filter, a filter-cleaning system, dust receptacle or dust removal system, to cartridges and bag house solenoids, fans and valves. Each part plays a role to ensure the collector is operating at the design point. We recommend using factory recommended replacement parts and be leery of less expensive alternatives.
Free Dust of Hopper
A vortex wet dust collector's hopper should never be used to store dust. The hopper is intended to funnel process dust to a storage bin. Dust accumulating in a hopper creates a potential fire or deflagrating risk. Dust in your hopper will also clog the system and diminish the collector's performance and prevent the pulse-cleaning from doing its job.
Check Diaphragm Valves
It's smart to make checking your diaphragm valves a priority each year. Particularly when new bag houses or cartridges are installed, it is recommended to check the valves and ensure that all filters are cleaned properly from the beginning. Remember that it's always cheaper to replace diaphragm valves than it is to buy new filters because of inadequate pulsing.
Regularly Check Your Ductwork
It's smart to equip your ducting with a flow-activated isolation valve, protecting downstream work areas from the propagation of flame and pressure through the inlet duct when deflagrating occurs in a vortex wet dust collector. If there is deflagrating in a vortex wet dust collector, the pressure will close the valve, preventing the passage of flame and smoke to areas upstream from the valve. The valve latches shut and must be reopened manually. Some parts of the valve may be damaged, and a thorough inspection is required before the valve is back in service.
Make Sure You're Using the Correct Air Pressure in Your Vortex Wet Dust Collector
Compressed air pressure is crucial for the performance and longevity of a dust When compressed air is too low, filter cartridges are not properly cleaned which results in rapid downgrade and saturation. When air pressure is too high, filter cartridges are used up faster and need to be replaced more frequently, driving up cost and maintenance. It's very important to always have your compressed air pressure within the limits of manufacturers recommendations. Your compressed air should be oiled and water free, and the amount should be sufficient for all users performing simultaneous tasks.
Keep an Eye on Pressure Drop
Increasing pressure drop (typically measured in inches of water column)across the vortex wet dust collector affects the ability of the collection system to capture dust. As a safety measure, change filters when airflow reaches a differential pressure. New filters have the lowest pressure drop because of the inherent permeability of the media. As the bags develop dust, some particulate embeds itself into the filter media, which increases the pressure drop.
Create an Inspection or Maintenance Program
To ensure a vortex wet dust collector is working properly, periodic inspections and a maintenance program will go a long way toward keeping your vortex wet dust collector functioning at a high level. Scheduled inspections on a daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annual and annual basis will keep your vortex wet dust collector working efficiently and keep your maintenance costs down. Failing to routinely inspect and maintain your dust collector can hurt its performance, and continued neglect will lead to your vortex wet dust collector not meeting outlet emissions standards.
Inspect the Filter Media
The filter is the most important part of a vortex wet dust collector because it accumulates and supports dust cake. Dust cake is what provides high filtering efficiencies during operation. Regularly inspect the clean-air side of the vortex wet dust collector for leaks and the bags for tears. If pressure drop within a vortex wet dust collector becomes extremely high compared to normal, it may be caused by excessive dust cake or "blinding" of the filter bags.
Types of Bag Filter
Pulse Jet Type:
Pulse jets are the most preferred bag filters in process industries, designed to ensure low-pressure drop and ease of installation and maintenance with components like cages, tube sheets, and venturis. It assures complete gas tightness across the tube sheet that prevents polluted gases' ingression into clean air. It is designed with an optimal air-to-cloth ratio as per its process requirements. Pulse jet type bag filters are primarily used in process industries such as cement, power, steel, etc.
Reverse Airbag:
The Reverse Airbag is ideal for handling high-temperature gases in large volumes. It can facilitate the emission level of 20 to 50 mg/ nm3. The PLC control panel ensures its cleaning operations, optimum pressure drop, and longer lifespan of the bag house. The hook assembly and springs at the top help in the suspension of filter bags and appropriate tensioning. The complete gas tightness is ensured by casing, hopper, and tube sheet that prevents ingression of polluted gases to clean air side. The design of the reverse airbag includes balanced gas distribution of the inlet and outlet plenums that ensures uniform distribution of gases.
Mechanical Shakers:
The mechanical shaker bag filters are designed by attaching tubular filter bags on a cell plate at the bottom and suspending it from the horizontal beams at the top. The polluted gases enter from the bottom and pass through the filter. On the other hand, the pollutants get collected on the internal surface of the bags. Mechanical shaker filter bags have high space requirements due to relatively low air-to-cloth ratio.
