Submerged Arc Furnace, also known as resistance furnace or arc furnace, is mainly used for reducing and smelting ores, carbonaceous reducing agents, and solvents. It is used to produce ferroalloys such as silicon-iron, manganese-iron, chromium-iron, tungsten-iron, and silicon-manganese alloys, which are important industrial raw materials in the metallurgical industry, as well as chemical raw materials such as calcium carbide.

The Submerged Arc Furnace uses carbonaceous or magnesia refractory materials as the furnace lining and self-baked electrodes. The electrode is inserted into the charge for submerged arc operation, and the energy and current of the electric arc pass through the charge to melt the metal. The metal is added continuously, and the iron slag is intermittently tapped, making it a type of industrial electric furnace for continuous operation. The load of the Submerged Arc Furnace transformer is continuous and stable, with low impedance voltage, more voltage regulation levels, and small voltage difference, making it strong in overload capacity. It can be divided into two types: on-load and no-excited voltage regulation. Generally, the first few stages have a constant output capacity, while the later stages have a constant current output.
