Introduction:
SNCR, also known as Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction, refers to the process of injecting a reducing agent into a "temperature window" suitable for denitrification reaction without using a catalyst, reducing nitrogen oxides (NOx) in flue gas to harmless nitrogen gas and water.
Process:
Selective non-catalytic reduction refers to the injection of reducing agents such as ammonia, urea, or hydrogen ammonium into the furnace to reduce NOx in flue gas to harmless nitrogen gas and water without the use of a catalyst. The reducing agent only reacts with NOx in the flue gas and generally not with oxygen. Since this technology does not use a catalyst, it is called selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR). Due to the absence of a catalyst, the reducing agent must be added in the high-temperature zone. The reducing agent is injected into the region of the furnace with a temperature of 850~1100℃, rapidly decomposed into NH3, and reacted with NOx in the flue gas to generate N2 and water.
Working Principle:
SNCR using ammonia as a reducing agent is called the De NOx method, and SNCR using urea as a reducing agent is called the NOxOUT method. The chemical reaction equation for reducing NOx with NH3 as a reducing agent is mainly as follows in the temperature range of 900℃~1100℃:
4NH3 + 4NO + O2 → 4N2 + 6H2O
4NH3 + 2NO + 2O2 → 3N2 + 6H2O
8NH3 + 6NO2 → 7N2 + 12H2O
The main chemical reactions for reducing NOx with urea as a reducing agent are:
CO(NH2)2 → 2NH2 + CO
NH2 + NO → N2 + H2O
CO + NO → N2 + CO2
SNCR is commonly used in boiler furnaces to reduce NOx emissions to approximately 200mg/Nm3.
