Cyclone Terminology
A hydrocyclone separator is an efficient separation device that uses the centrifugal force field to separate two-phase fluids. It is widely used in grading, concentration, dehydration, desilting, sorting, and washing operations. This manual refers to the hydrocyclone separator as the cyclone separator for brevity. The sand discharge port (also known as sand nozzle or bottom outlet) is the outlet at the bottom of the cyclone separator. Its inner diameter varies according to the required separation effect and is the most commonly adjusted component during operation. The bottom flow is the material discharged from the sand nozzle, mainly consisting of high-density coarse particles. The overflow is the material discharged from the overflow pipe, mainly consisting of low-density fine particles.
Cyclone Separator Working Principle
Under pressure, the slurry enters the body of the cyclone separator through the feed port along the tangential or involute direction (depending on the form of the feed material). Under the action of the centrifugal force field, large particles move downwards with the outer spiral flow and obtain coarse sand products from the lower sand discharge port, while fine particles move upwards with the inner spiral flow and obtain fine overflow products from the upper overflow pipe.
